Over £2,400 Raised for Sounds of Palestine from the Westminster Abbey Collection

Friday 10th November 2017

Following the school’s biennial Westminster Abbey Service on Friday 20 October, a total of more than £2,400 was raised for the Sounds of Palestine charity.

As is customary after the service held at Westminster Abbey every other year, there was a retiring collection, which this year was in aid of Sounds of Palestine. This charity does valuable work using music education as a medium to achieve long term social change for the children in refugee camps in the West Bank of Israel, as well as helping to feed and clothe children that come through their door.

The effort has very much been led by U6 student Camille who discovered the charity through Principal Director of Music, Mr Padley. Having previously raised over £1000 through her own music recital, the charity was subsequently chosen again for the Westminster Abbey collection.

You can read below why Camille has supported the charity so vehemently:

Sounds of Palestine is a charity that I discovered through our Director of Music, Mr Padley. The charity aims to achieve long term social change for children and families in refugee camps involved in their project by offering music workshops and summer school programmes.

I first started support supporting this fantastic charity last May where over £1000 was raised during a music recital. With this donation the charity was able to provide warm meals and buy new instruments for the children.

I was initially interested in supporting this charity because of their clear commitment to the children they teach, providing extra support for children with special needs such as hyperactivity, autism and those with speech impairments. I would like to thank our Headmistress, Mrs Harrington, for agreeing to support Sounds of Palestine at our Westminster Abbey Service.

We would like to thank the whole Queen Anne’s community for their support of such an outstanding cause and we hope to update you with how the money was used.
