World Book Day At Queen Anne's
Friday 26th February 2016
With World Book Day fast approaching on Thursday 3 March, pupils at Queen Anne’s are invited to participate in four competitions as part of this year’s celebrations.
Not only do we see the return of the annual World Book Day Creative Writing Competition for the lower school years, judged this year by novelist, Jamila Gavin, but we also have a treasure hunt of sorts. This year, pupils will be able to participate in a ‘Who am I? Guess the Author’ Competition which involves pupils locating the names of twelve anonymous authors who appear on hidden posters around the school. The successful pupils, who submit their answers to the English department, will then be placed in a hat with one student being drawn and declared the victor! The posters will be up from Tuesday 1 March onwards.
In order to keep our literary passions burning, there is an opportunity for all pupils to enter the ‘My Literary Date’ Writing Competition and outline concisely which literary characters float their boat or tickle their fancy in gushing, romantic terms! Templates for the ‘Literary Date’ will be distributed in lessons by the English teachers.
The fourth and final competition is the World Book Day Fancy Dress Competition – again, the rules are very simple: dress up as your favourite literary character from your favourite literary text! The English department will meet, discuss and then decide on prizes for the best costume!
So, to summarise, there will be prizes for the best stories, best costumes, best ‘Literary Date’ responses and for overall victory in the ‘Guess the Author’ Poster Hunt!
Good luck to all our girls taking part!
