The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Bronze Practice Expedition

Monday 16th March 2015

61 girls from U4 and L5 participated in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award Expedition on Friday 13 to Sunday 15 March. Mr Blunt reports that cold is normally found at altitude, at the poles and in the ocean depths, but on this occasion, our girls unfortunately found cold in Ashdown Forest, Sussex??!! The girls endured a tough 36 hours battling against the freezing conditions whilst learning a host of new skills including camp craft, navigation and how to carry your entire house and belongings successfully on your back whilst walking miles.

After a roller coaster ride of emotions, the girls woke up to a fine set of conditions on the Sunday morning and our mighty explorers really began to show off their new found skills and confidence for living in the outdoors.  Breakfast was prepared efficiently, tents came down quickly and with rucksacks packed, the final days navigation was ‘spot on’ meaning it was an early departure back to Queen Anne’s on Sunday afternoon. All the girls successfully passed with flying colours and this now allows them to participate in the qualifying Bronze Award Expedition which takes place in April.

Mr Blunt would like to congratulate all the girls for displaying great resilience in some testing conditions and would like to thank Miss Kerr and Miss Caddy for the support and encouragement they provided for all during the three days.
