Swimming Success At The Wycombe Abbey Invitational Gala

Thursday 15th October 2015

The Wycombe Abbey Invitational Gala on Wednesday 14 October proved a big success for our U15 and U13 age group swim teams as Queen Anne’s competed against Wycombe Abbey, Berkhamsted, Wycombe High School, Downe House and St Helen and St Katharine.

Mr Blunt was delighted with the camaraderie and team spirit on display throughout the Gala by the squad and the determination shown by every individual. Highlights included a great winning performance in the Junior 100 IM by Olive Richards, who recorded a new PB of 1.21.67 and an excellent first place by Aimee Langwade in the Junior 50m Breaststroke.

It was really pleasing and encouraging to see so many of our Year 4 pupils stepping up to the U15 team and compete on level terms with swimmers nearly 2 years older than them in some cases. There were a whole host of second places enjoyed by the squad, which cemented a fine overall performance. There was a great cheer from the girls when it was announced at the presentation that Queen Anne’s had won the U13B Team event. This result highlights just how much depth of swimming talent there currently is within the Junior section of the school.

Mr Blunt would like to thank Zoe Campbell (stand in captain for Amber Richards – missing through injury) and Olivia Mowat for performing their captaincy roles so well. It was also lovely to see so many parents supporting their daughters and granddaughters in the gallery during the Gala.
