Sporting News

Monday 8th February 2016

Please find below for a roundup of our Sports News from last week (week commencing Monday 1 February):

The stormy weekend weather resulted in the cancellation of the South West Schools’ Junior Lacrosse Rally in Dorset, but our 1st lacrosse team were able to play their friendly fixture against the University of Oxford’s 2nd team. Queen Anne’s played with much determination against their older and more experienced opponents, in what were very difficult playing conditions. They only lost by one goal, 8-7, with an away result that has given them much confidence in the lead up to the National Schools’ Lacrosse Tournament at the end of this month. The commended players were Eliza McCreery, Bella Bowater and Iona Chandler.

Lauren Church, our Athletics Captain, was also competing in the wind and rain on Saturday 6 February in the U20 South East Region Cross Country Championships. Lauren finished in 18th place overall and was a crucial point scorer for Berkshire. This means she has successfully secured her place in the county team for the English Schools’ Cross Country National Final on Saturday 5 March in Nottingham. Congratulations Lauren!

Earlier in the week, in the Inter-House Swimming Gala, Wisdome dominated the junior events, but Webbe excelled in the senior category to snatched victory overall with 127 points. Runners-up were Wisdome with 116 points, and the bronze team position went to Maddock with 87 points. Well done to everyone who took part for their house and to the pupils who supported them. In the mid-week fixture against Downe House, our U12 and U14 teams competed with much character. There were numerous 2nd place victories and further wins by Olive and Amber Richards, Amy McCall and Aimee Langwade. Debutants Rosie Fricker, Amelie Heap and Amber Ingram contributed superbly and have a bright future as school team swimmers.

Finally, we wish our U15A netball squad all the very best for their National Cup Semi-Final match tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 9 February) against James Allen’s Girls School in London.
