Spanish Firewalk Theatre Company Workshop
Tuesday 25th February 2014
On Monday 3 February, Queen Anne’s hosted the Firewalk Theatre Company, who performed El Camino de Santiago in front of L5, L6 and U6 students studying Spanish, as well as pupils from The Abbey School.
The play tells the story of itinerant magician, Santiago Pérez, and his journey to Finisterre accompanied by his daughter, Miranda. The performance took the form of a magic show and traditional theatre, all delivered in Spanish by the native Spanish speaking cast.
Pupils were dazzled by numerous tricks and several girls were invited on to the stage to be the magician’s assistant, much to their delight! Prior to the show, L5 pupils were taught a lesson by U6 students who explained about the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and together, they completed activities to aid their understanding of the performance. L6 and U6 students were also able to read through the script in Spanish and unpick some Spanish jokes relevant to the performance. Everyone commented on how much they had enjoyed the show and went away asking one another ‘How did they do those tricks?!’
Queen Anne’s hope to welcome back the company in 2015 when they will be touring schools performing an adaptation of the famous Robinson Crusoe.
