National Rowing Award For Sheyi

Monday 23rd March 2015

L6 student, Sheyi Blackett, has successfully achieved 1st place in the women’s Year 12 category at the 2015 National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships on Friday 20 March. 13 pupils from Queen Anne’s participated in the championships, which took place at Lea Valley Athletics Centre in North London.

Sheyi, a Reading Junior at Reading Rowing Club and GB Rowing star, claimed the top spot, after only taking up the sport a year ago. She completed the race in 07:19:06, over 2 seconds quicker than 2nd place and beat over 40 entrants in her age group from top schools across the country, finishing strongly to move from third place into the winning position during the final 500m of the race. Earlier this month she finished 9th out of 200 competitors when competing for the England U23 rowing squad.

Congratulations also go to Katie Millington for achieving 12th Place in the Year 13 category, Felicity Handscombe for achieving 17th place in the Year 13 category, Katherine Green for coming in 6th place in the Year 10 category and to Eleanor Blois-Brooke for receiving 6th Place in the Year 8 category.
