Queen Anne’s Tutudesk Design Unveiled

Throughout the last academic year, the community of Queen Anne’s came together to raise £10,000 for the school’s nominated charity, Tutudesk. The Desmond Tutu Tutudesk Campaign aims to provide 20 million mobile desks, called Tutudesks, to children in sub-Saharan Africa by 2020 and as part of the school’s donation, pupils were given the opportunity to design a desk on behalf of Queen Anne’s.

After months of creative input from the girls, the winning design, created by Millie Bowater, Pankhuri Agarwal and Zoe Webb, was unveiled during morning assembly on Monday 19 October by a representative from The Tutudesk Campaign Advisory Board, Mr Sam Singh. Mr Singh brought along a sample of the desk, which has been officially signed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Patron of Tutudesk, to present to the girls and also gave a presentation to pupils and staff showing photographs of children at Mthonjeni Primary School in Blinkwater, South Africa, receiving the Queen Anne’s Tutudesk.

This is the second time that Mr Singh, a former Merchant Navy Captain, has visited Queen Anne’s. On Saturday 27 June 2015, Mr Singh attended the school’s annual Speech Day and Prize Giving ceremony and was presented with a cheque for £10,000 from Headmistress, Mrs Julia Harrington, following a year of fundraising.
