The Music department have enjoyed a number of exciting and dynamic concerts this half-term – please see below for a full round-up of musical reviews:

Concert at St Mary’s Church, Sulhampstead Abbots – Tuesday 13 May

On Tuesday 13 May 2014, 14 girls from Queen Anne’s travelled to Sulhampstead Abbots to perform a concert at the Parish Church. The girls excelled themselves and performed a concert demonstrating professionalism and versatility. Audiences present heard performances ranging from JS Bach to Disney’s Frozen.

Following the concert on Tuesday, a selection of pupil’s commented on the concert and performances:

“I enjoyed the opportunity to perform as a soloist; it was a chance to showcase your talent” Rebecca, U4

“It was great to have a chance to perform in a setting outside of Queen Anne’s” Isabel, U4

“I enjoyed having the chance to perform and talking with the villagers after the concert” Bronwen, U4

Lower School Concert – Tuesday 20 May

The second Lower School Concert of the year displayed the vast amount of talent that there is on the way up through the school. The Lower School Orchestra performed Vivaldi and Walton with precision and confidence and this was followed by a range of soloists and small ensembles including a piano trio involving Anna Way, Elena Sheppard and Isabelle Richards and a brilliant rendition of their own song composition by Anna Bradbury, Jessica Blakemore, Charlotte Ashley-Carter, Yasmin Hatton and Claudia Mills. The solo playing by all of the girls was exceptional and at a particularly high standard with notable performances by Isabella Bowater, Paloma Hamilton-Bowker, Isabel Zealley, Camille Morana and Katherine Green to name a few. The evening was rounded off by a spirited performance by the Lower Four Choir of I will Follow Him from Sister Act.

VOCES8 Concert – Wednesday 21 May

It was an enormous pleasure to welcome back VOCES8 to give a stunning concert on Wednesday 21 May. The performance was exceptional and they gave us an evening of music from William Byrd, to Gershwin’s Summertime and a fabulous arrangement of Fever. The performance was beautifully polished and meticulously choreographed and the audience loved it! In the afternoon, the group spent time working on improvisation and vocal technique with a group of girls and the piece they created was performed in the evening concert.
