Hands On Science for Parents
Tuesday 8th October 2013
On Saturday 5 October a number of Queen Anne’s parents went ‘Back to School’ with the help of the Science Department. They donned white lab coats and returned to the classroom to take part in some exciting and informative scientific experiments.
In Chemistry, the ‘Fizzing and Bangs’ session was enjoyed by all, particularly the screaming jelly baby. During the Physics session the parents had the difficult task of making a motor. It was a fiddly task but all involved had the satisfaction of a spinning motor, even if some were a little faster than others! Finally, the class moved on to Biology where they observed the heart rate of water fleas under a microscope and to top it off, one of the water fleas even gave birth whilst being observed!
It was a fun morning enjoyed by both parents and staff. Mrs Mundy, a parent participant, said “It really was a fabulous opportunity to see the teachers in their element making giant poo and small incendiary devices and so enjoyable to take part in.”
