Girls Brave the Elements to Complete Practice Expedition
Monday 4th April 2016
Over the weekend of the 18 – 20 March, fifty six Queen Anne’s girls braved the elements to complete their practice expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award in the beautiful and rolling Ashdown Forest in Sussex.
The three days provided training and preparation for their Bronze Qualifying expedition which will take place on the 23 & 24 April. The girls’ camp craft, leadership, personal administration, team work, navigation and walking skills were all tested throughout the duration of the expedition.
As confidence began to build within the eight groups of seven girls, their performance improved tremendously. Mr Blunt and the Sam Sykes Ltd instructors were full of praise for the entire group. On several occasions, the instructors passed comment to Mr Blunt about how motivated and delightful our girls were to work with. Even during the real cold snaps, everyone stuck together and were determined the conditions would not defeat them.
Indomitable, defiant and stoic were words used to describe them all. Captain Scott would have been proud!
