England Trials for Synchronised Swimmer Sophie

Monday 12th January 2015

Congratulations to L5 pupil, Sophie Wulfinghoff, who has achieved numerous synchronised swimming successes, including taking part in trials for the England Team.

On Sunday 19 October 2014, Sophie competed in the Multi Synchronised Swimming Regionals in Crawley. Sophie participated as part of a team, who won 1st place in the South East Regional category and also as a duet, placing in 2nd place in the South East Regional category. Receiving her silver medal was extra special for Sophie as this was the first time that she had competed as part of a duet.

Sophie’s next competition was the National Age Group Championships, which took place on Friday 5 through to Sunday 7 December 2014. Sophie achieved 14th place as an individual competitor, confirming her opportunity to take part in the England Trials, and also her team placed in 2nd place for Great Britain and Sophie’s duet placed in 6th place for Great Britain. As there are only 20 spots available for the England Trials, this was another wonderful achievement for Sophie.

The England Trials then took place on Saturday 13 to Sunday 14 December at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. This was the first time that Sophie had taken part in the England Trials and the competition was tight as only 13 players were selected for the team. Sophie was ranked 15th overall, narrowly missing out on a place on the team, however the experience of taking part in the England Trials will no doubt pave the way for future success for Sophie.
