Dramanauts Triumph At Woodley Arts Festival

Wednesday 23rd March 2016

Dramaramaland is celebrating another record year after competing at the Woodley Arts Festival 2016. 38 Queen Anne’s pupils entered this year’s festival winning a total of 23 medals; 11 Gold, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze including 4 trophies.

Speaking about the Woodley Festival this year, Mr Rhodri Punter, Head of Drama, said:

“All of the girls performed to a very high standard and it was a delight to see so many Queen Anne’s girls giving up their free time over two weekends to compete and represent the school and the drama department.”

A special mention must go to L6 drama scholar, Annabel Marlow, who not only won a Gold medal in the Solo Acting (Year 13 and under) category but was also awarded the Sonning Players’ Trophy (awarded for the highest mark at the entire Festival), the Solo Acting Cup (for the best solo performance) and the inaugural Queen Anne’s Star Trophy for the most promising performer. The Queen’s Anne’s Star was donated by the drama department and it was awarded for the first time this year.

When summing up Annabel’s performance the adjudicator, Dr Anita Downey, said:

“In all my years of adjudicating, I have not seen a finer piece of work. Outstanding.”

Another magnificent performance came from U4 pupil, Maddie Clark, who achieved a score of 91% winning Gold in the Shakespeare Solo (Year 11 and under) category. As a result, Maddie not only won gold but was awarded the Shakespeare Cup, which is particularly special in the year that we celebrate the 400th anniversary of his death.

Mrs Harrington summed up the results in just one word… “superb!”
