Biology Week 2015
Friday 9th October 2015
As Biology Week 2015 officially commences this Sunday, pupils at Queen Anne’s are getting ready to participate in competitions which will test their knowledge and photography skills.
Girls will be given the opportunity to participate in two competitions: “The Royal Society of Biology Quiz” will test the girls’ general knowledge and a photography competition with the theme of “Patterns in Nature” will hopefully result in some splendid blends of biological knowledge and artistic flair.
Lunchtime screenings of David Attenborough’s “Life on Earth” will also provide the girls with the opportunity to bolster their knowledge and be soothed by the dulcet tones of this inspirational naturalist.
To inspire the girls with regards to the photography competition, please find below for an image which was taken with a microscope camera showing the vascular bundle within the root of a dicotyledonous plant. It is stained to highlight the lignified walls of the xylem vessels – the water transport vessels – in red.
