Assembly Sport Report
Monday 22nd February 2016
Following the half-term break, please find below for some sporting updates from U6 student Sheyi Blackett:
“In Lacrosse, huge congratulations must go to Bella Bowater, Ella Harris, Georgie Evans and Katie Green who have been selected to attend the England U17 National Academy USA Tour on the east coast of America in July. This will give them all a chance to gain further vital experience and to continue to impress the England selectors ahead of the next U19 Women’s World Cup.
In Netball, our U15A squad’s incredible journey in the School Sport Cup came to a halt in a very competitive and high scoring semi-final match. They were beaten 55-41 by James Allen’s Girls’ School in London, who had an incredibly tall goal attack player who dominated much of the play in their shooting circle. Our commended players were Lottie Cox, Georgie Kent, Nina Lethbridge and Talia Jones but a huge congratulations once again to all the girls who helped Queen Anne’s reach the last four in this national competition. Something we are all very proud of!
In Swimming, a B match against Downe House provided a fabulous opportunity for some different girls to represent the school in a friendly U13 and U15 fixture. They all gelled really well providing some excellent team spirit with the stand out individual performance going to Charlotte Harvey who, on her debut, won a thrilling freestyle race.
In rowing, and I always find this bit slightly embarrassing when sharing my own accomplishments, I am really happy to confirm that over the weekend, I won the pairs event and came 9th individually in the second round of British Rowing’s national trials for the Junior World Championships, keeping my dreams for selection very much alive.
And finally, I would like to give my best wishes to everyone competing either for the school or in other outside sporting and dance competitions during the rest of this term; with a special mention this week to our lacrosse teams who are in their final preparations for the Lacrosse Nationals, which start on Friday. Good luck to all of you.”
