4s Geography Trip to Cornwall
Thursday 26th September 2013
On Friday 20 September, the 4s departed on their Geography field trip to Cornwall and arrived at the Outdoor Adventure, near Bude by 2pm. The afternoon was spent doing team building games on the field in lovely sunshine. That evening the girls took part in skills activities including orienteering, night-lines, a communication activity and egg drop, a problem solving task.
Saturday was spent in two groups canoeing and carrying out a river study. Canoeing was enjoyed by everyone. The boats of three travelled up the canal away from the dock to a point where the girls were challenged with balance activities and games. Everyone, needless to say, got wet!! The river study took place at Duckpool on the River Coombe. It was very misty so the girls couldn’t go to the top of the cliff and look down on the river basin, however the group improvised by going up the path half way and drawing the mouth and lower course of the river.
On Sunday the group again split into two groups, this time for the coastal walk and surfing. The weather was clear and warm so the coastal walk was enjoyable and informative. The girls sketched landforms and got prizes for the best ones. Surfing was the high point of the weekend, all those who took part had a great time and many stood up. On Sunday evening the girls wrote up their notes before a campfire and slide show of the weekend’s best photos.
By Monday everyone was ready to come home. After packing everyone went down to the beach to play until the coach arrived to take the group back to Queen Anne’s. The journey home was VERY quiet as everyone was so tired from a very active weekend.
