Mothers And Daughters Raise Over £1,300 for Berkshire Women’s Aid
Monday 25th April 2016
On Wednesday 20 April, Queen Anne’s held their inaugural ‘Mother and Daughter’ Evening to help raise money for the charity, Berkshire Women’s Aid. The evening raised over £1,300 for the local charity, which provides advice, counselling and places of safety in Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell, and offered a wonderful opportunity for girls and their parents to spend time together.
Below, L6 student Charlotte Stanton, provides a writeup of the evening:
“The ‘Mother and Daughter’ celebration evening was a huge success. The charity for the evening was Berkshire Women’s Aid, a charity which works against abuse and violence, providing advice, counselling and places of safety in Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell. The evening was also a great opportunity for girls and their parents to spend some quality time together and to raise money for a worthwhile cause.
We were very fortunate to have Liz from Berkshire Women’s Aid to come and speak about the charity’s aims, vision and values. One area she spoke about was a programme called ‘Family Choices’, which is an innovative programme aimed at preventing domestic abuse, reducing repeat incidents and the impact of abusive relationships. We thank her for coming and spending the evening with us.
The evening’s entertainment was a range of acting, dancing and singing. There were also quizzes, a raffle and an auction, with all proceeds going towards the charity. There was also a competition for the best dressed table, with first prize going to Mrs Kavanagh, who dressed her table with the colours and values of the charity.
Overall the evening was very successful with a total amount of £1322.10 being raised. We thank everyone for donating and making it such an enjoyable evening. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Storey who organised the event. The donations will go a long way in helping the charity fulfil their vision and aims. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening.”
