Girls at Queen Anne’s School, Caversham turned the clock back to the 80s last week(13 and 14 March) when they performed The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole at the school’s purpose-built Performing Arts Centre. The play is set in 1985 and the audience were invited to attend the performances in 1980-style fancy dress and a 80s themed buffet was served before each performance.
The girls involved in the production, who are in Years 10 and 11, had great fun looking at pictures of how we dressed in the 1980s and discussing the clothes fashions, hairstyles and music. These were then reproduced to great comic effect on stage in the performances.

The production was very well attended in the 260-seat Performing Arts Centre and each performance was greeted with much laughter and fun. The performers themselves were clearly having just as much fun on stage as the audience.
At the end of the performances a charity collection was taken in aid of Queen Anne’s School Partnership Project, which raised more than £200 for the Bahowo School in Indonesia. This project has so far raised over £16,500.
Head of Drama, Rhodri Punter, said, ‘I was extremely pleased with all the girls involved. They rose to the occasion very well and put in loads of energy which resulted in a hugely entertaining and amusing production’.
