Studying at Queen Anne's School

Academic Subjects

Teaching is carried out in all subjects – from drama to science – in a community that encourages pupils to develop a system of spiritual beliefs and a moral code, as well as developing personally, socially and culturally.

In art we explore issues such as the interpretation of visual expression, censorship and the relationship between artist and society. In geography we explore the effects of globalisation, and develop self-esteem and confidence through team and field work. Chemistry lessons include awareness of such topics as forensic science and the physical laws that underpin the universe, and how science and belief relate. Music brings opportunities for self-criticism of pupils’ own performances, respect for other musicians, and discovery of other musical cultures. The study of novels and poetry in English raises issues as diverse as truth, freedom and suffering; we also examine contemporary texts as found in leading periodicals and journals.

Academic teaching is structured to allow each girl’s needs to be met so they can thrive during their time here. Our aim is to recognise individual talents and help girls to build on their strengths. The broad curriculum encourages them to engage with their subjects and develop a passion for learning. They are taught research techniques, coursework preparation and study skills, which prepare them well for public examinations and university life.
