Sixth form life
Community is strong at Queen Anne's and all the sixth formers belong to a sixth form centre, Holmes (lower sixth) and Michell (upper sixth), which accommodate both boarding and day girls. Housemistresses and resident house staff play a large part in daily life and are available 24/7 and house academic tutors are on hand to help with the management of assigments and exams.
Sixth formers are assigned to a small tutor group which meets daily and the tutor works closely with individual students over two years, monitoring academic process and overseeing personal well-being. Additional support is provided by the Head of Sixth Form, the Academic Deputy Head, Pastoral Deputy Head and house staff.
Life in the sixth form can be pretty action-packed and students are able to take advantage of the many opportunities on offer. These range from organised schemes, such as Duke of Edinburgh, Young Enterprise and public speaking to summer balls, trips out with friends and a vast range of extra-curricular activities. The school has close links with The Oratory and Shiplake, and students frequently meet up for study and social events.
On joining the sixth form the whole lower sixth year take part in an induction course on the Isle of Wight. This takes place annually during the first weekend of the new academic year in September. Apart from having great fun, it is an important weekend in allowing new students to the school to get to know our existing girls in a relaxed and informal setting, where they can build new friendships and get to know the staff. The girls try their hand at a variety of exciting watersports, including dragon boating, kayaking, dingy sailing and windsurfing, under the expert tuition of the UKSA team.
