Queen Anne’s senior public speaking team have won the south east regional finals of the Rotary Club’s “Youth Speaks” competition, held on 16 March in Sevenoaks, Kent. The win places the girls as one of the top eight teams in the UK.

The team – Afiya Titus (Chairman), Elizabeth Style (Speaker) and Rebecca Gee (Vote of thanks) – will now go onto the National Finals at Loughborough on 21 April.  The winning speech was “Child Soldiers”, addressing the abuse of children, often as young as six years old, who are forced to become soldiers in warfare across the world.

In October 2007, Queen Anne’s will be hosting the prestigious International Independent Schools Public Speaking Championships (IISPSC).  It is the largest event of its kind in the world and will be held outside North America for the first time since the competition began 25 years ago.
