World Class Debating

Aruna Pawson and Imogen Sealy
Public Speaking and Debating students, Imogen Sealy and Aruna Pawson, were selected to compete at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Lithuania.

Both girls achieved excellent results against more than 100 competitors from USA, Canada and South Africa, 24 of whom had qualified through national championships.

Imogen reached the Finals in the After-dinner Speaking category gaining 7th place. Aruna qualified for the Finals in Interpretive Reading and also achieved 7th place. 

Overall in the championship Imogen was ranked 31st and Aruna was 59th.

Tony Garner, Head of Public Speaking and Debating, said: ‘It was a very strong field indeed this year. Both girls distinguished themselves by getting into the Finals and are now looking forward to competing in next year's championships, which will be held in Brisbane, Australia.  Imogen will also be competing at the International Independent Public Speaking Championships in Ottowa, Canada, in October 2010'.
