Speech Day prize winners

We were delighted to welcome John Beavis, Chairman of the charity IDEALS, as our guest speaker at Speech Day and Prize Giving.

John is an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon and Chairman of the charity IDEALS. His primary professional interests are traumatic surgery, paediatric orthopaedics and general spinal surgery.

His pioneering work has taken him to war zones in Bosnia, Lebanon Azerbaijan and the north west Pakistan/Afghanistan border, to develop treatments in a variety of orthopaedic and trauma sub-specialties. He was awarded the Bosnian Medal of Honour for his work in Sarajevo Hospital during the war.

IDEALS charity has provided humanitarian and medical aid following the Pakistan earthquake and the Tsunami in Sri Lanka in 2005. More recently in Gaza, IDEALS is providing advanced medical equipment, including apparatus for chronic pain relief resulting from complex wounds and major burns, and is planning training in limb reconstruction.

John is also Chairman of Besafe, a UK charity working to instruct youngsters in schools, youth clubs and prisons about the affects of knives and firearms.
