On Monday, the Geography and Maths Department took the U4s to Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds.
The purpose of this inter-departmental trip was for the pupils to collect data that they could then analyse. For Maths, the girls collected data to help estimate the height of trees and to test a hypothesis about leaf shape, and produced posters which incorporated their findings.
The focus for the Geography Department was to investigate the impact of tourism. The girls collected data about the shop types and they conducted questionnaires to both the local and the tourists. Following this, a talk was given to help the girls learn about the importance of tourism to the local economy. Finally, the girls were required to present their findings from the surveys and produce a presentation to the Stow-on-the-Wold town council, giving an account of the impact of tourism on the town, and recommend future changes that would benefit both the locals and tourists.
Overall the trip was very successful and provided a great opportunity for both group activities and independent learning.
