Queen Anne's student, Fatema Lookmanjee (L6), has received an award as a runner up in the Chance to be Chancellor Challenge 2009, run by the charity Citizenship Foundation. The object of the exercise is to see how young people might manage the country's spending. Fatema, and other contestants, had to draw up a budget report and, with a limited amount of funds, decide where to allocate money, including areas such as health, business, environment, energy, education and transport.

Speaking about the challenge, Fatema said: ‘I think it is very important that young people take an interest in politics, especially the budget report. The Citizenship Foundation provides young people with a chance to engage with what will affect them in the future. I found it very difficult to choose where to allocate money and I now have an insight into Alistair Darling's very difficult job, choosing where money should be spent. In my eyes so many things were worthy of investment, but choices had to be made'.
