Shrove Tuesday
A treat on Pancake day!
Over the last few years it has become a tradition in Wilkins that on Shrove Tuesday Mrs Hillier makes pancakes for all the girls to enjoy after they have finished their evening prep. These are served with a selection of favourite accompaniments - chocolate, toffee or raspberry sauce, warm golden syrup, lots of whipped cream or just simple lemon and sugar. Once prep has finished the girls form a long queue and wait eagerly for the pile of steaming pancakes to arrive from Mrs Hillier's kitchen. Starting with the Lower 4's through to Lower 6 girls over 70 pancakes are quickly devoured!
The sound of drums
Girls attended the percussion workshop followed by a concert and enjoyed the great programme of entertainment provided by two young men called ‘O Duo' A request for volunteers from the audience was an opportunity for three girls to help with one piece and Lydia Marshall excelled with her impromptu Bongo playing!
Confirmation
Confirmation Service with the Bishop of Reading, The Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell in the School Chapel. The following Wilkins girls were confirmed:
Hannah and Lydia Marshall, Yasmin Denehy, Ifelouwa Akomolafe, Onyinye Ngonadi and Ellen Woodward.
Michell snow fun!
At the weekend Angelica, Miri and Maria from Michell House had fun sledging in the deep snow with the Rich family at Balmore Park. As the sledging progressed the girls became more skilled and managed to avoid the bushes at the bottom of the run. Great fun was had by all!

As we ventured around the House of Commons, we realised how big it was, and the ceilings of the building were very artistic. Schools were invited from all over the country to listen to speeches from Dr Peter Landless and Richard J B Willis. Dr Landless is the Executive Director of the International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency. He spoke about the addictive process of alcohol and other drugs and highlighted that 'prevention is the cure'. He also informed us that when you are under the influence of alcohol you don't remember 10% of the things you do. Richard J B Willis is a published author; he gave his speech about 'The High Life', focusing his presentation on the use of alcohol by the adolescence in the UK. One of his statistics showed that the most frequent place for adolescents to get drunk is at friend's houses when their parents were away. It was an interesting day and we felt that we gained a lot from the experience, finding out the consequences of the abuse of drugs and alcohol. By Lucie Ollis and Natalie Martin

On Sunday 8 November a group of excited girls were taken to London to go to Madame Tussauds. We went into the first room and were amazed at all the celebrities that seemed to surround us on all sides. Of course, we were fully aware that we had not just stepped into an A-list celebrity gathering, but were in the midst of very skilfully made wax models of various famous and important people. As we walked through the crowds we were able to see life-size replicas of stars such as as Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera, Madonna and even, to our delight, Justin Timberland and Robbie Williams. The highlights though were getting pictures with President Obama - and the king of pop himself Michael Jackson. As we walked through the many sections we saw models from the A-List stars, down to the Disney area, where we got pictures with Hannah Montana and Zac Efron, then across to the television section where we met the Little Britain cast. We sat at the EastEnders bar, saw Ant and Dec and even sat on the knee of Simon Cowell. Finally, we arrived at the bottom floor, which was filled with tortured souls. There was also a section you walked through where people jumped out at you acting like mad murderers. We have never screamed so much! The last section of the museum was the historical area, where we learned about the different eras in British History, which was really interesting. Overall the day was highly enjoyable and a day well spent. We would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Freeman for organising such an entertaining trip for us. Angelica Hill and Miri Park
