GCSE/IGCSE Curriculum

Guidance is given to ensure that students keep higher education and career opportunities as open as possible. There is no fixed option block system at either GCSE or A level so that, wherever possible, an individual's choices can be accommodated.

GCSE
Students generally take 10 or 11 subjects and all students follow full courses in English, English literature, mathematics and science. The latter comprises biology, chemistry and physics taught by specialist teachers either as double award (2 GCSEs) or separately as triple award (3 GCSEs). In addition students follow short course GCSEs in religious studies and information technology. Students are also expected to take at least one modern foreign language.

Optional subjects are: art, classical civilization, drama, French, geography, German, history, Latin, music, physical education, Spanish, triple award science. Greek is also available on request.

IGCSE
We follow the IGCSE in mathematics and music. The mathematics specifications differ only slightly from the standard GCSE mathematics, but do include set theory and elementary calculus. There is no coursework component. The IGCSE music specification focuses on detailed analytical listening, including a study of world music, performing and composing.
