Able, gifted and talented
At Queen Anne's, we define Gifted students as those who exhibit exceptional abilities across a number of academic subjects and Talented students as those who demonstrate outstanding ability, or potential, in more practical subjects such as art, music or PE. Approximately ten percent of Queen Anne's girls are currently identified as especially able and are therefore considered to be, and registered as, Gifted and Talented. Students are identified and listed as 'gifted' as a result of IQ testing and/or on the basis of teacher recommendations. Talented students are identified through departmental recommendation.
At Queen Anne's we endeavour to challenge our Gifted and Talented students through a wide variety of extension activities and, where appropriate, through acceleration. Individual departments offer numerous opportunities for enrichment and academic development and departments are encouraged to ensure that each girl receives work that is appropriate to her own ability, and which will allow her to achieve both her full potential and to meet the school's high expectations. Students' academic progress is carefully monitored and flexible mentoring sessions are available as and when appropriate. Students are also encouraged to enter a range of internal and external competitions.
